We visited the Flight 93 memorial in Storystown, Pennsylvania today. The plane actually went down in the field behind the welcome center, in Shanksville.
We visited the welcome center, which had a wealth of information about the day of and then life after the 9/11 attacks. Also, we walked a two mile round trip to the sight of the plane crash. Finally, we visited the Tower of Voices. There is a wind chime for each of the lives lost on that flight. When the wind reaches 10mph, you can hear the chimes.
This memorial is a National Park site, but the families of the victims help with decisions. One of the decisions I thought was interesting and I appreciate… They will only sell items in the gift shop that are made in the USA.
Between being at a very high altitude and knowing the gravity of the situation/memory, there was a very somber and heavy feeling at this site. This is actually the only history site I’ve been to that I have lived through; it brings an interesting emotion.
