The kids and I visited Providence today. The Capitol building was magnificent. The walkway up to the building was tree-lined, and the architecture was beautiful. We walked around a little bit to get the feeling of the area.
We researched what material was used to build this Capitol building. Interesting info: Rhode Island State House is constructed of 327,000 cubic feet of white Georgia marble, 15 million bricks, and 1,309 short tons of iron floor beams. It is in a neoclassical design.
The dome is “the fourth largest self-supported marble dome in the world”.
